The ancient capital of Yamatai, and seat of the politically powerless imperial court. For the past century is has served as a center of culture and learning, as well as a place of great symbolical importance to the Yamatai people. The majestic Kōkyo (Imperial Palace) is located here, in the north-central area of the city.
