Nicknames or Aliases
Age: 42
Religion and Language: Dissenter Amorean (in public) and speaks Amorean.
Faction Loyalty: The Blessed Isles
Alignment: To the Cambress family.
Profession: Praetor of the Arms and Oars for the Episcopate of the Blessed Isles
Appearance: Aidan Cambress is no longer young, with more than a little grey in his hair and some lines on his face. He has something of a widow's peak.
Personality: Aidan Cambress is talkative and an avid reader, but is better with a sword than a pen - and he is very good with his pen. Driven, ambitious, and committed, Aidan has focused on enhancing the prestige of the Cambress family.
History: Aidan Cambress served with distinction in the legions of Amorea as a young aristocratic officer from a prominent Amorean landowning family. After 10 years, he transferred to a position in fleet command in the Blessed Isles - a move which likely saved his life during the Empire's disastrous collapse. As the most senior officer left in the Blessed Isles in 410, Aidan was raised to the office of Dux by the governor and offered significant land holdings - holdings he expanded again after helping Episcopos Sofiya Maurenos take control of the Episcopate and the political machinery of the Blessed Isles.
The Cambress family benefited broadly from the rise of the Episcopate. Several rival families found themselves subject to religious trials and land takeovers. He received the honorary title of Defender of the Faith after suppressing a non-dissenter rite on Myra in 408.
410 finds Aidan Cambress as supreme commander of military forces in the Blessed Isles, except for the troops under the command of Daurus Jessex, the Legate of the Holy Arms. Under the official direction of the Episcopos - but with wide liberties - Aidan has become the effective head of civilian and military government.
Strengths/Weaknesses Grand strategy and tactics are Aidan Cambress's two areas of military excellence.
Strengths: Aidan Cambress has been able to fill civilian and military positions with clients and close allies. He possess both the command and loyalty of the military. His military backing has well prepared him for his position, and he is calculating, strategic, and ambitious.
Weaknesses: There has been a cost in political effectiveness as a result of Aidan's patriarchal approach. While the military retains a strong meritocratic streak, the civil service has been weakened by his political appointments. Some Parabalani have spoken out against his wide authority, and there are rumors that his conversion has not been total.
Likes: To increase the size of his patronage system, and his son's successes.
Dislikes: The Parabalani.
Weapons: Fully trained in the weapons of the Amorean legions, from his years of service between approximately 393 to 408, and from his service in the fleet command until the Empire's fall in 410.
Armor: He wears the full regalia of an Amorean Dux in battle, as a sign of his station and a reminder of his heritage to all. And maybe, just maybe, as an omen of things to come.Extra
