Titus Marius Cambress
Titus for short.
Titus for short.
Age: 17
Religion and Language: Dissenter Iesinorene and Amorean-speaker.
Faction Loyalty: The Blessed Isles
Alignment: The Cambress Family and the Iesinorene Church
Profession: Marine Commander
Appearance: Titus is taller than his father, and in better shape. Although young, he is a marine commander with some experience and it shows in his gait and his manner of carrying himself. He has brown hair.
Personality: Titus has been used as a pawn by both his father and the Episcopate, but he has maintained a resilient attitude. His achievements have left him self-confident, with a firm sense of faith, a strong grounding in the classics, and a deep love of the sea. His ability to build camaraderie with his men at such a young age shows promise for his military and political career.
History:
Titus Marius Cambress was raised on the family estate in Iesinoria until the age of 7. After the founding of the Episcopate, when he was 9, Aidan sent Titus to be raised in the Holy Household, where he was given thorough training in religious law. There was some speculation at the time that this constituted a hostage pledge of loyalty.
At the age of 11, he began military training with the Parabalani under Daurus Jessex. Although he detested Daurus, he developed a profound respect for the Parabalani and for the holy law.
At 13, after 4 years as a hostage, Titus returned to the family estate. He continued an education focused on martial training and classical Amoraean literature under the guide of a devoted governess from the Episcopos. After accompanying his father on a naval review, Titus developed a passion for sailing. He spent his available days thereafter with a small skiff learning to sail the waters near the estate.
In 407, Council Iesinorenes staged an uprising against the Episcopate on the island of Myra. Episcopos Sofiya responded with a call for both the national military and the Parabalani to retake the island and cleanse the heresy. Daurus Jessex, eager to curry favor with the Episcopos, rushed the Parabalani in before the fleet and marines were ready - and by the time the fleet got there, had suffered a disastrous defeat at Myra in Titusa and and ignominious retreat to the shore.
In early 408, Jessex accused Aidan Cambress in a public mass in Meshuthai of intentionally sabotaging the effort. Aidan never responded to the allegations, but sent Titus Marius in at the head of the marine force to liberate Myra even though he was just 15 at the time, and had never served with the Marines before. Titus suffered an injury in the following assault on Myra, but earned his standing among the marines and shamed Daurus Jessex.
The political fallout of his father's dramatic gesture was severe. Daurus Jessex lost standing with the Episcopos; Aidan Cambress tightened his hold on power; and the Episcopos herself offered Titus a commission as Marine Commander. Which he took.
While stationed in Myra, Titus has fallen in love with lady Laurentia Sofiya Avitus, but the families have not yet consented to the match.
Strengths/Weaknesses Titus excels in leadership and tactics, but lacks the strategic vision of his father.
Strengths: Titus has had a wide variety of experiences, and is popular with officials in the military, civilian, and episcopal regimes. He has a charismatic character and is popular among the marines.
Weaknesses: Titus has loyalties to both his father, and by extension the civilian government, and to the Episcopate. He also lacks the strategic vision of his father.
Likes: The Lady Laurentia Sofiya Avitus, and sailing.
Dislikes: Daurus Jessex.
Weapons: Familiar with both the unorthodox weaponry and street tactics of the Parabalani, and with the Amoraean marine arsenal.
Armor: The full armor suit of an Amoraean marine commander, with the insignia of the Episcopate (instead of the civilian government, like his father). It was a gift of the Episcopos herself.
