Gaios Porcios Dento
Age: 44
Religion and Language: Iesinorene; Amoraean, (some Ismaean)
Faction Loyalty: Ismaea & Tingitanaea
Alignment: Lawful Evil
Profession: Vicarios of the Diocese of Ismaea & Tingitanaea
Appearance: Dento is a man of small-to-medium height, with brown hair, brown eyes, and a pinched face. Although trim in his youth, years of easy living have taken their toll on his phyiscal appearance.
Personality: Clever and ambitious, Dento has become an expert on how to get what he wants from others. Cordial and humorous on most occasions, his affable charm and droll wit disguise a cold ruthlessness which reveals itself only rarely. His decision-making is extremely deliberate (bordering on the overcautious), in fear that an overly hasty action may place him on the wrong side of history.
History:
Born in Amoraea to the Porcii, a family of minor officials, Dento followed his father in the work of the corruption-laden Customs House, where his success there earned him the favor of certain highly placed men and the position of cornicularios to the praeses of a province in the western empire.
After a year, Dento was promoted to princeps of the province, and in three years he was recalled to the capital and commissioned as a praeses of Ismaea. Although he resented the remoteness and difficulty of his posting, Dento quickly came to recognize the potential for advancement, and in a year was able to have his superior vicarios removed and tried for treason. Following the man's execution, Dento himself became vicarios of the diocese of Ismaea and Tingitanaea, even as the first Northmen appeared on the Empire's northern border.
In the ten years since Amoraea's fall, Dento has busied himself securing his personal control over the diocese. Although he repeatedly and publicly proclaims his support for the reforming Empire and his status as its humble servant, in truth Dento is the effective ruler of his own kingdom. Despite the decade of labor his power is most complete only in Tingitanaea, and much of Ismaea remains beyond his effective control. Without Ismaea, however, Dento must be content to rule only his humble diocese, something his ambition will never permit...
